Applying literary lenses to a text as a way of informing context and meaning

Tuesday.  1.26.  An introduction to literary lenses.  Throughout this semester, we will incorporate the various lenses of critical literary theory to our works studied.  For the next two weeks, you will become an expert in, at least, one critical lens, and you will explore others as you and your colleagues apply these lenses to familiar, children's stories.

Thursday. 1.28.   Research and planning time for presentations on fairy tale and critical theory.

Monday. 2.1.  Research and planning time for presentations on fairy tale and critical theory.

Wednesday.  2.4.  Presentations of critical study

Revisions for this assignment
Should you wish to revise this assignment, please submit a written critique of a fairy tale using a specific lens.  You may use the same lens/tale, but it does not need to be.
You will be evaluated with the same criteria.
  • an explanation of the lens and demonstration of its application
  • a close reading of the tale using the specific lens

While researching fairy tales and critical literary theory, I came across this blog post with an interesting twist on the Three Little Pigs.  [note: further exploration of the blog writer may lead to questionable content.  There is nothing explicit, just questionable]
